AMA Recap: CRYPTO MINERS X CHECKPOINT
Checkpoint is a multi-faceted, digitally-interactive media brand that covers videogames and their influence on society, culture, education and politics. Checkpoint asks how videogames can help us understand ourselves better and the world around us. All content is free and the offering covers everything from fully interactive digital magazines and podcasts, to lesson plans for schools that adhere to the national curriculum to name but a few. Checkpoint will pioneer content on Web 3.0 and utilise the multiverse and blockchain to increase its reach and influence.
We hosted an AMA session with Checkpoint on 6th March.
Mr. Ramsy was the host from Crypto Miners and Mr. Tamer, founder of Checkpoint was the guest. He shared delightful knowledge and unique features of Checkpoint.
.
Segment 1️⃣: Introduction
.
Ramsy:
Hello everyone 👋 and welcome to the Crypto Miners AMA session With Checkpoint
To help us learn more about the featured project of this AMA session, we are lucky to be joined By Mr Tamer
Tamer Asfahani:
Thank you Ramsy
Ramsy:
Hello there 👋
Welcome here
Thanks for bringing Us Checkpoint ❤️
Tamer Asfahani:
Hi!Thank you for having me
Ramsy:
How are you doing today mate?
Tamer Asfahani:
I'm good thank you. I hope you and your community are all doing well and keeping safe.
Ramsy:
Yes we're mate 🤝
I'm pretty sure that our Community is very much excited to learn more about Checkpoint ✌️
So let's get started if you're ready!!
Tamer Asfahani:
I am indeed! Let's go!
Ramsy:
First of all Please give us a brief explanation about 'Checkpoint' .What popped up in your mind to create such a platform in this Space?
Tamer Asfahani:
The best way to describe Checkpoint is by thinking about it as a multifaceted media brand. What we mean by that is that we create content across video, audio, written and otherwise. We use videogames as the foundation of our content and see how it impacts society, culture, politics and education. We use the inherent knowledge of gaming to help learn more about the world around us.
Checkpoint was launched five years ago, and we currently comprise of 2 digitally interaactive magazines, five podcasts, two websites, a number of Learning Materials for schools and home learning, as well as our Bedtime Stories and other extra things we do. ALL of our content is FREE and we don’t collect your data.
The best thing to do is check out https://youtu.be/4ho7RqZhepY which will be a great introduction to what we’re doing.
Oh, and we’ve got a metaverse that’s live already. And free. You asked why it was created.
Simply, because videogames are an excellent tool for learning, testing, socialising. And there has been a lot of research and evidence-based knowldege released. But no one understands it. But I think we do.
Ramsy:
Thanks Tamer for this great start about Checkpoint 👌
Now let's see our second question from this segment...
Q2) So what are your main features and advantages that discern you from other Projects?
Tamer Asfahani:
Checkpoint is a metaverse content creator and editorial brand that looks at how videogames impact our culture, society, politics and education. We take deep dives into the subject matters that videogames deal with and anchor them in the real world - no one else does this yet.Our magazines have always supported any written content with audio, video, animations, galleries and more in order to allow the reader to engage with the content in any way they wish rather than just reading it. The multiverse, in conjunction with the blockchain and Web 3 allows us to make that content interactive in a whole new way.
We’re demonstrating how content can be consumed differently, digitally and across multiple platforms - whether traditional or otherwise.
Checkpoint wasn't created as a blockchain project. We’re free.
We already exist.
We have visitors and we’re not building our infrastructure — meaning we’re not wasting money to compete in an already crowded space. We’ve got a real vision and strategy that we’ve already implemented across the brand, and we’re the only media brand that is fully immersed and has a roadmap for the future in Web 3 and blockchain, tying in the multiverse.
Ramsy:
Q3) How has the experience and background of your team been effective in the success of your project so far?
Tamer Asfahani:
Sorry, Ramsy, just quickly on question 2 - I forgot to mention this very important point.Another important element to highlight is that we have multiple revenue streams that aren’t reliant on crypto. As we are a media brand, we have opportunities to generate revenue from our already established brand.
The team is probably one of the most experienced out there and I'm proud to say that they combine the best of both the world of crypto, blockchain, Web 3 and wider industry.
I’ve been involved in blockchain since around 2016. As an experienced journalist I had always been intrigued by the blockchain, especially after documents were leaked by Edward Snowden on the Bitcoin blockchain. I’d also tracked bitcoin - as a currency - and was interested in its potential to change the definition of “free markets” specifically in third world countries.
Paul Elmes, co-founder of Checkpoint, is the designing genius behind the brand. Literally everything you see has been designed by Paul - from the magazines to the websites to the branding and our colour palette and design language. Paul has come from the world of design and has been a designer for some of the biggest publications in the UK, from broadsheet to tabloid papers, b2b publications and much more.
Vita Pur is a patron and one of the founding team members of Somnium Space VR. Vita's extensive knowledge and experience in the blockchain has afforded us the ability to really honestly talk about how we integrate our content and what it will look like. His sage advice has helped shape how our tokenomics work too, as well as being an incredible sounding board for my grandiose ideas.
San Shepherd is the founder and CEO of Future Tech Labs, the company behind the most successful VR space right now, Multiverse Online. San has come from a rich development background - initially at EA heading up teams of production for SSX and Burnout Paradise to name a few. San has been in the AR/VR space since the early 2000s and was the man behind such products as Star Chart AR and more recently, Star Chart VR.
Andrew Tzialli is our legal counsel, Head of Blockchain & Crypto Group, at Philip Lee LLP, and is one of the top crypto lawyers in the world (as recognised by Legal500). He was responsible for the $2.5billion USD acquisition of Minecraft to Microsoft.
Simon Tucker comes from a research and investment background, with focus on delivering high quality production for major clients. Simon has been a supporter of Checkpoint for many years and has acted as a unofficial business advisor opening doors of potential opportunities for the brand.
You can find out more about the team in the Orange Paper - https://bit.ly/3zKTHqv
As you see, our combined experience, coupled with the content that Paul and I created, has meant we've been able to draw on some very impressive figures
Ramsy:
Q4) We just realized that Last Checkpoint uses a dual token System, $CHPT Token and $LOAD Token, so can you explain us what are the differences and Usecases of both tokens?
Tamer Asfahani:
Simply put the governance token is like a share in the company. We hope the value to increase as the business grows. The utility is just that. It’s there to facilitate the sale of our content and merchandise.
Think of the utility as an “in-game” currency like Robux or V-bucks. The utility is not an asset as such and we don’t want to inflate the value of our utility token.
By keeping them separate, we can maintain liquidity in the utility token without it impacting the wider business growth.
Trying to have a utility token tied with a governance token makes it messy and different investors want different things out of their coins.
We want to make it clear that if you believe in our product and business then you should invest in the governance.
If you’re interested in our content and merch (and we have a HUGE strategy for this), then you can use our utility token to buy tokens to spend in our world, like fairground tickets if you like.
his means that we can also maintain a stable economy for the utility token, keeping it around the same price.
One final thing that I think is really important to outline is that we don't do a Free-To-Play or Play-To-Earn model. We've actually come up with a whole new way of rewarding our community. That's ENGAGE TO EARN - a revolutionary new way to reward our community without them having to stake their coins. It's really quite cool and I would encourage everyone to read up on our ENGAGE TO EARN model. No one else is doing this. https://bit.ly/3vJrGjn
Ramsy:
Alright,Let's move to our last question from this segment
Q5) So how long did it take to develop this project? What plans do you have for the future? And what can we expect from Checkpoint? If possible could you please share road map with us.
Tamer Asfahani:
I thought you said last QUESTION not QUESTIONS!!! LOL! 😉Ok, let me go through this because it's quite a big answer!
I’ve mentioned before, we’re not in development. We’re actually already producing content and we’re already out there! All of our content is free and we’ve been doing Checkpoint for five years now. You can check out what we do at www.checkpointhub.info
We have a lot of plans for the future, our main one is to make the multiverse (metaverse) accessible without a headset and through any device and browsers. This will hopefully be completed this year. This means that we can get people to visit our metaverse without the need for a headset or any specialist device.
As for what you can expect from Checkpoint, well, let's just say a lot. What we've already created and done is literally the very tip of the iceberg. There's stuff we've already developed and are ready to announce and release. There is a minimum of a 10 year strategy with Checkpoint today. We have a lot more work to do. Not least with education and kids, education and adults, content, driving the way in web 3, blockchain and multiverses for content brands as well as much more.
And our Orange (white) Paper outlines everything. Including our roadmap: https://bit.ly/3sNhqEU
Ramsy:
Thanks Tamer for this well detailed introduction about Checkpoint:)
And that's the wrap up of our the first part of the AMA session ✅
Now Moving on to our last segment - Live Q&A...
I hope you’re ready for that!!
Tamer Asfahani:
I am ready
Ramsy:
Let’s go,
Segment 2️⃣: Live QnA
(In this segment group was opened for 60 seconds and Miners sent hundreds of questions. Guest choose some best to answer)
1)Nobitaᕦ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕤ:
Are you going to IDO on $LOAD tokens, Does $LOAD tokens have a Burn/Buyback system and What are the advantages of having $LOAD tokens?
Tamer Asfahani:
Ok, the first question is actually a very good question.
We are doing an IDO on KICK.io (we actually go live tomorrow - find out more here: https://kick.io/seed/load-adaWe do not have a burn or buyback system - there are only 1 billion tokens, and they're capped at 1 billion. In addition you can read all about how we're allocating our tokens in the Orange Paper - which you can link to directly from the Kick.io page.
The advantages of having the LOAD token is that it allows you to be involved with the evolution of Checkpoint. We will ask the community to vote on what we do/release/announce next from a set of predetermined objectives.
Holding the LOAD tokens allows you to be a part of the Checkpoint governing body.
2) Topind:
1. Why did you decide to build on Cardano ecosystem, just curious,
2. What is the main selling point of of Checkpoint?
Tamer Asfahani:
Great question on Cardano. And we've written a whole article about why we're using the Cardano blockchain. Article link below, however, just some top lines on Cardano and why we are using it:- Cardano has a very low carbon footprint, low energy consumption and strives to continue to reduce its carbon footprint
- Cardano has a sustainable growth model and wants to attract projects of value to the blockchain
- Cardano’s mission is to allow possibilities for billions of people worldwide through its platform
- The Cardano ecosystem and infrastructure is founded on scientific peer reviews (over 100)
- Cardano being Proof of Stake (PoS) means that gas fees and transactions aren’t subject to ridiculous gas fees (fees taken for confirming transactions)

3) SuperFrankie:
Most projects are now abandoned in the middle of their operations due to a lack of sustainability and incapacity to support expansion in a market that is wildly shifting. How will you be able to deal with market fluctuations in an efficient manner??
Tamer Asfahani:
Good question
We're not going anywhere. We have been doing Checkpoint for five years already and Checkpoint is not a crypto business. Crypto enhances what we do and we have multiple other revenue streams.
We're also not collecting any data, that's the beauty of the blockchain and web 3, right? You choose where you connect your wallet and what information you're comfortable giving up. Well, we don't ask you sign up, sign in or give us any of your data. We use already existing platforms to deliver your expereince. We don't believe you should have to pay for access to our content with anything. That's why we have a unique model. So none of your sensitive material will ever be stored with us.
As for market fluctuations - they're not a problem for us precisely becuase we're an already existing media brand with a multitude of ways to generate revenue.
Finally, whatever we do online that will require purchasing using our utility token, will be affordable and accessible. Our model is all about being inclusive.
4) 💠 Ada Atalay 💠:
Checkpoint, will engage to earn extend to kids since there is a kids magazine as well as their multiverse content?
Tamer Asfahani:
Ok, this is a really important question and something that I talk about quite a lot. It was actually asked in the community earlier and I think it's a really important question:Our mission is to make sure children are protected and safe, but aware that this is the world they will be interacting in.
In the same way as they have to ask parents (mostly) to access digital content (Robux, Vbucks, etc) they would need to have their parents’ permission to get content that’s paid for.
Unless they have their own browser wallet anyway, they wouldn’t be able to purchase.
Now, there is a conversation be had around preparing and maybe limiting access to children if they do have their own wallets, but they’re still not independent adults. In order for them to earn, they’d need to be on a grown up person’s wallet. Ultimately, it's down to the parent and/carer to make sure the children are being safe online. That's not to say, however, that we will not be responsible for the content the kids have access to.The idea with the kids is to inspire them and excite them. We can do that by offering them their own gallery, their own magazine and their own platform - which is what we already do.
We will never sell to children. EVER. And we will never ADVERTISE in any of the children’s properties. Even our bedtime stories (which have been played over 3.5 millino times since launching last year) are not open to advertising or sponsorship opportunities.
And we believe by providing them access and knowledge is far more valuable than content assets.
Plus, we’re always here for when they grow up and have their own disposable income. Checkpoint will be here for them to engage in in a different way.
5) Waluyo Benjo:
In the podcast feature, do readers also get other benefits such as income or rewards ??
Tamer Asfahani:
YES! That is the whole point of our REVOLUTIONARY ENGAGE TO EARN model. No one else is doing this.
So, if you’re sharing our content, purchasing our digital assets (including NFTs, for which we have a huge strategy and we already have assets made up and ready to be minted), engaging in our community social media, active in the multiverse; we’ll be able to track that and reward you. You may download and read through every page of our magazines and then share it. We’ll know. As you accumulate more engagement, your chance of winning rarer items increases.
You can read more about Engage to Earn in our latestt Medium article: https://bit.ly/3vJrGjn
6) Sara Larez:
users are the most important thing in a project, so how do you plan to attract cryptographic and non-cryptographic users to CHECKPOINT, tell us, do you have plans to include non-cryptographic users in CHECKPOINT use cases?
Tamer Asfahani:
We already have an estbalished commuinty because of the content we produce! We believe that community is vitally important, and I come from a journalistic background. Our content is high quality and very engaging. Plus all our written work is supported by audio, video or otherwise.
7) Dary:
You mentioned that they have multiple sources of income that are not dependent on cryptocurrencies. So, can you name some of those sources of income that you generate from the already established brand?
Tamer Asfahani:
Yes! Advertising in the magazine, sponsorship of the learning materials and much more! Read the Orange Paper!
8) Ender:
What are your strongest points that you think will enable you and the team behind the project to become the market leader? Where do you see yourself in the future in terms of market share and location?
Tamer Asfahani:
Everything is free. Everything is done and everything is accessible. We're also not reliant on the blockchain or crypto for revenue as we have other revenue models.
*This segment ends here*
