CoinMarketCap is the world’s most-referenced price-tracking website for crypto assets in the rapidly growing cryptocurrency space. Its mission is to make crypto discoverable and efficient globally by empowering retail users with unbiased, high quality and accurate information for drawing their own informed conclusions. Founded by Brandon Chez in May 2013, CoinMarketCap has quickly grown to become the most trusted source by users, institutions, and media for comparing thousands of cryptoassets and is commonly cited by CNBC, Bloomberg, and other major news outlets. (Even the U.S. government uses CoinMarketCap’s data for research and reports!) In April 2020, CoinMarketCap was acquired by Binance Capital Mgmt. Through the acquisition, CoinMarketCap plans to tap into its parent company’s extensive resources to acquire more in-depth data into projects, reduce information asymmetry in the crypto industry and bring higher-quality data to its hundreds of millions of users. CoinMarketCap has been the premier price-tracking website for cryptocurrencies. It is the most referenced and trusted source for comparing thousands of crypto entities in the rapidly growing cryptocurrency space by users, institutions, and media. CoinMarketCap firmly stands for accurate, timely and unbiased information, enabling each end user to draw their own informed conclusions from CoinMarketCap data.

We hosted an AMA session with CoinMarketCap on 20th July.

Mr. Ramsy was the host from Crypto Miners and Miss Shilika Jain from CMC was the guest. She shared delightful knowledge about updates in CMC ecosystem.

First of all, please give us a brief introduction about ‘CoinMarketCap’ in Lyman words.

Shilika Jain:
CoinMarketCap is a leading data aggregator application allowing users to track prices of their crypto assets seamlessly. Under the CoinMarketCap banner we also support the projects to grow their community by reaching an audience of 272.3M+ monthly visitors (May 2021 SimilarWeb data) through various campaigns.

We also have the content library, Alexandria where users can educate themselves about the crypto space.

2) What features CMC have as compared to its competitors which is mainly CoinGecko?

Shilika Jain:
CMC has interesting features as compared to its competitors. We are also continuously working to reiterate the platform and add more features that can provide value to our users.

Some of the notable features are:
1. Cryptocurrency Converter that allows you to convert you crypto value into fiat.
2. We have the Conference streaming platform where users can watch the conferences streaming live on Coinmarketcap.
3. Our recent initiative, CMC — Community where we are building the ultimate social media platform for users to discuss everything related to crypto.
4. We also have campaigns like Learn & Earn, Airdrops and Diamonds to incentivise users on our platform.

There is a lot more that we’re working on but cannot be revealed as of now.

3) Now tell us about CMC-Community. Why did CMC decide to create an integrated social media platform? What about freedom and censorship on CMC-COMMUNITY?

Shilika Jain:
Users are across various platforms like Twitter, Telegram, Reddit, Medium, YouTube and Twitch trying to tap into the right crypto content. Since we do have a huge platform and userbase, we wanted to provide the crypto community with a platform where users could discuss about everything crypto

CMC-Community pulls together the largest community of crypto users directly on CMC. It is the one-stop-shop for crypto projects to engage with their users. Crypto projects can post their updates on CMC-Community just like what they do on Twitter, they can also post long form articles — project announcements or token economics like what they do on medium.

Crypto enthusiasts can build a following and gain massive exposure. They can also voice out their grievances without the fear of getting banned.

They can also initiate governance proposals on CMC-Community, users can also have real-time discussions on our discussion board just like what they do on Telegram or Discord.

In respect to freedom of speech, the platform will be open to anyone and everyone to voice out their thoughts and opinions. We have however introduced the community guidelines so that users can maintain high etiquette while using the platform.

4) How to join CMC-Community and what are the benefits to join it? What about the security of platform and the users?

Shilika Jain:
You can simply sign up on the Coinmarketcap’s website using an email address and password. You’ll be able to access the CMC Community and will also be able to set up an account to get started. It is as simple as it can get.

The benefits of joining the platform would include creating value content and building a following because the platform has massive exposure. You will also be able to publish long form articles on CMC. One can also be eligible to become a Coinmarketcap’s verified influencer and get access to exclusive perks. Have a direct and non-censored access to directly communicate with projects

The platform is secure and we are current working on 2FA (in the pipeline) to improve the overall security of the platform.

5) It is noticed that there are lots of ads showing on CMC nowadays, so in future are you going to launch any premium membership for anyone who don’t want to see any ads?
Also tell us about Gravity Feature which is in beta phase now!!

Shilika Jain:
For almost all social platforms, Ads serve as a monetization model. At CMC-Community, our aim is to adhere to strict guidelines & maintain neutrality to create a balance. We are more inclined towards creating a better user experience than just monetizing the platform.

Currently there is no clarity on whether we will create a premium membership since we are more focused on developing the product to create a seamless user experience.

The Gravity Feature is rebranded to “CMC-Community” which is yet in Beta stage as we are working on reiterating the product and adding more gamified features.

6) What major updates we can see in coming months and coming years in a longer term?

Shilika Jain:
We are launching our CMC Community Creator Program where users can create informative content on CMC Community and win lucrative rewards and perks.

We will be doubling down on more campaigns on our social side to engage users on our platform. We are internally working on churning more interesting news & educational content so more and more users can start their Web3 Journey.

On the product front, the BUIDL mode is on at CMC. We are focused on building CMC-Community and related features for the crypto community. There are some more interesting things that we will be coming up with in the near future that will be announced on our socials.

We will also be revamping our Jobs Board so more users can utilise the platform to explore opportunities in Web3

Segment 2️⃣: Twitter Questions

1)I see CoinMarketCap will introduce an all-in-one metaverse CMC-COMMUNITY that will help it to achieve its goals of crypto adoption. You’ve said that users will be able to make governance suggestions. Does that mean you’ll have your own governance token? Can you share about this?

Shilika Jain:
Yes, when I mean governance suggestions, we do have projects that are listed on CMC and have their tokens live on the markets. These projects are actively creating content and pushing major updates/announcements on the platforms. These projects can seamlessly kickstart their governance proposals on CMC Community. We currently have no clarity on CMC launching their own token since we are yet focusing on building our product and adding more features to drive crypto adoption.

2)Does CoinMarketCap provide support to users in today’s volatile market conditions, do you have any ideas or advice that CoinMarketCap gives users about the long-term impact of macroeconomic events on Bitcoin and how we can maximize our trading profits in this case?

Shilika Jain:
Coinmarketcap’s Youtube & Alexandria blog create a lot of content on long-term impact of the macro events and trading strategies. You can also check out our podcast to consume some refreshing content on these topics to upskill during this bear market.

3)Most of your NFTs are avatars with no use cases hence no real monetary value. Personally I would love to use my diamonds to buy books mechs or subscribe to important sites presently there are no such rewards so, is there a chance you will diversify your rewards to other areas?

Shilika Jain:
Yes,we are working on introducing merchandise and exclusive in real-life/virtual conference wherein these diamonds can have real utility and provide real value to users than just NFTs. The whole reason for introducing NFTs was to follow the market trend as most users were excited to receive NFTs.

CMC will be coming with bigger things and definitely will look into diversifying the reward system.

1) Amina Peter:
OpenSea is cutting 20% of its workforce due to the bear market situation, is Coinmarketcap planning to do same? And Where should we see coinmarketcap in the next 5 years?

Shilika Jain:
Irrespective of which project is cutting down their costs, CMC is focused on building in this current market conditions. We have no plans of firing our employees instead we are actively hiring for various positions at CMC. You can check CMC Jobsboard or CryptoJobsList listing our current openings.

2) Up:
Are you a global project or not? Do you have any plan for ambassador programme as well?

Shilika Jain:
We’re a global project with our team based across the world. We are launching a CMC Community Creator Program. Any crypto enthusiast, creator, blogger can participate in this program. This will also help in increasing your opportunities to become a verified creator/KOL on CMC

3) Jarvis $BTC:
I see you have an option known as ALEXANDRIA. Could you talk more about this option which is available on your web? What is the use of this feature and how can this feature help the newbie investors and advanced ones?

Shilika Jain:
Alexandria is our content library where we publish daily news, educational content, glossary terms, guides and much more. If you are someone whose keen to learn about crypto then you cannot miss out on Alexandria. We have simplified complex terms for anyone who wants to learn about crypto and any advanced ones who want to stay updated about the crypto space.

4) Aso:
What plans do you have to grow rapidly in terms of users, global market and partners? What are your strategies in building a big and strong community?

We are including a lot of features on the web side and app side to create a seamless experience. We are also working on more translations that can help users to onboard in crypto space by using CMC.

We are also establishing strategic partnerships with leading players like Google, Microsoft, Presearch, Yandex to drive more users to Web3.

We have much more planned on the product side and have leading partnerships in the pipeline, however one of the major initiatives that we’re focusing on in CMC Community.

5) 𝙈𝙧. 𝙏𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙣:

We wanted to align our whole brand guidelines with the current one and hence we renamed it to community.

Also with CMC Community, projects will be able to build, nurture and engage with their community, hence Community was ideal to move forward with.
